The Royal Little Red Riding Hood after Kilimnik book sculpture

Despite several comments this is not my tribute to the imminent Royal Wedding!

'The Royal Little Red Riding Hood after Kilimnik' is a book sculpture partially inspired the print by American painter and installation artist Karen Kilimnik.

It is all hand cut and sculpted from paper, the carriage has then had 23 carat gold leaf applied, the moon Palladium leaf. I now have cards with some of these images available for purchase, get them here and here.

Limited-Edition Photograph by Rinko Kawauchi to Support Japanese Relief Effort

Aperture is proud to contribute to the relief efforts in Japan by issuing this very special limited-edition photograph by Rinko Kawauchi, made the day after the earthquake in Tokyo. Kawauchi is considered one of the most noted Japanese photographers of her generation. She is known for her quiet aesthetic, offering viewers a glimpse of tender, fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. In this photograph Kawauchi captures the sun straining through a soot-filled sky. The resulting image is hauntingly beautiful, a poignant illustration of the immediate aftermath of the earthquake.

Net profits from the sale of this print will be donated to the American Red Cross Japan Relief Fund.

Rinko Kawauchi (b. 1972) lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. Her first Aperture-published monograph, Illuminance, will be released in spring 2011.

From Harvey Benge's blog -

'At Paris Photo in November last year I talked to Gerry Badger about "print on demand" publishing and how it was possible to make a book in a day. From that conversation came the idea of getting a group of photographers together to all shoot a book in a day.
John Gossage came on board, so did Martin Parr, Jessica Backhaus, Eva Maria Ocherbauer and Rob Hornstra who were all at Paris Photo. Publisher Klaus Kehrer of Kehrer Verlag in Heidelberg liked the idea and agreed to publish a set of individual photobooks.
The idea gestated into 2010 and was again talked about in May at the Kassel Photobook Festival. Alec Soth joined the group and so did Rinko Kawauchi who were both at Kassel. A last and final participant was Todd Hido.'

Conductors of the Moving World by Brad Zellar

Conductors of the Moving World is a really beautiful new book from Alec Soth's Littlebrownmushroom imprint.
Made by hand in an edition of just 500 I would have recommended you rush out and buy one, unfortunately it sold out yesterday. Good news for the Japanese Tsunami relief (which is where all the proceeds are going) but bad news for tardy book collectors!
Like the earlier Bedknobs and Boomsticks by Trent Parke this will no doubt be turning up on Amazon with a vastly inflated price before long.

In the autumn of 1972, a delegation of Japanese police officials visited the United States to study traffic control in several large cities, including New York, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. The unofficial photographer for the delegation was Eizo Ota, an inspector with the law enforcement department of the Yamanashi Prefecture, and he produced a record of the group’s travels that might best be described as forensic tourism.
Using Inspector Ota’s snapshots as launching points, Brad Zellar plundered traffic manuals, haiku anthologies, the Watergate transcripts, and The Godfather for textual inspiration. The mysterious result is a Zen travelogue through 1972 America.
From a collection of 60 C-Prints, a mix-and-match assortment of 17 will be hand-tipped into individual volumes, making each book a singular work of art.
