Ten Lords a Leaping book sculpture

Here is the latest offering from my 'Twelve Days of Christmas' series of book sculptures.
Ten Lords a Leaping, not depicted in quite the jolly Christmas card way we are used to, but who likes lords these days really!? Maybe these Lords were heavily involve in the financial sector...

Just announced is a new Susan Hiller print edition from Whitechapel Gallery.

It is not cheap - £895, but has a low edition number of just 25 signed and numbered, so the price is justified.

Zara McFarlane - Until Tomorrow

Chiaroscuro Zara McFarlane - Until Tomorrow.

I don't usually post about music on this blog - it doesn't seem to fit the remit, but frankly that has been pretty fluid of late anyway, and this new album just deserves wider recognition.

Until Tomorrow is the debut album of Zara McFarlane. It is a jazz album, but don't let that put you off - you only think you don't like jazz! (If you do like jazz congratulations, now go and buy this album...) Every track is a winner, though I think it could have lived without the alternate take of More Than Mine.

One caveat for Mac users - this CD would not load on mine, I had to use my son's PC to get it into iTunes and then share it with myself - a bit of a chore...

You can read more about Zara and the album here and you can buy it from Brownswood recordings here or Amazon here as well as downloading from iTunes etc.

Zara McFarlane - More Than Mine
Zara McFarlane - Captured (part 3)
Zara McFarlane - Mama Done
Zara McFarlane - Until Tomorrow
Zara McFarlane - Blossom Tree
Zara McFarlane - Feed The Spirit (The Children and The Warlock)
Zara McFarlane - Waking Sleep (Thoughts)
Zara McFarlane - Chiaroscuro
Zara McFarlane - Desire

Seven Swans a Swimming book sculpture

Christmas is on it's way and I have again been tasked with coming up with a window display for the bookshop where I work. This year I have decided on the Twelve days of Christmas as the theme - a lot of work, twelve different sculptures, but I have started early, so hopefully all will be OK!

Here is my take on seven swans a swimming. The swans are origami - very tricky to make them small enough but retain detail, had to use and old pocket edition of War and Peace with very thin paper. Pictures of the other sculptures will appear in due course - my net connection is very slow at the moment and I am struggling to upload pictures to blogger for some reason.

I am having some cards printed with the above image, they will be in my shop at the end of next week.

Raymond Meeks - Pretty Girls Wander

Pretty Girls Wander is a new photobook just announced by Raymond Meeks. It looks fantastic, but sadly I can't justify the $325 price tag at the moment. If you have the money I strongly suggest you make a purchase, Raymond's previous artist books have been wonderful indeed.

To get your copy be quick - it is a limited edition of only 40 copies - buy it here.

Keanu Reeves - Ode to Happiness

Ode to Happiness is Keanu Reeves' first book of 'poetry'. It has really nice illustrations by Alexandra Grant and is described as a picture book for grown-ups.
Published by Steidl in May 2011 it sold out pretty much instantly. It is much larger format than I expected, 13"x8" and housed in a slipcase. The book itself is more of a pamphlet format with exposed stitching and high quality paper.
The book is now pretty scarce, but there are a few copies available here and I have seen it here recently. I highly recommend you try to get hold of a copy, it is sure to increase in value.

Still no soul appeared upon her decks book sculpture.

It has been a while since my last post, I have been concentrating on moving house and my group exhibition at the Pitt Building in Cambridge. This passed off pretty successfully at the weekend, I hope the new owners of 'The Royal Little Red Riding Hood after Kilimnik' enjoy their purchase.

The picture above is of my most recent book sculpture 'Still no soul appeared upon her decks' made from an antique edition of Treasure Island. I only finished it a couple of days before the exhibition, so did not have time to have cards printed of it, predictably this was the most requested card! I should receive the stock in a week or so at which point I will load it in my shop where you can already find many other greeting cards.

Hopefully life will return to normal in the coming weeks and I will be able to resume more frequent posting of my recent book and art purchases and finds.

Paul Fusco prints at 20x200

Just announced and probably sold out by the time this hits the interweb. 2 prints by Paul Fusco in four different sizes, starting at $100.

I have to say I've become a little disenchanted with the 20x200 model, this is a big name and good prices.

Buy them here (if there are any left!).

Cards printed and Etsy shop open

I took delivery of my new business cards and blank greeting cards from moo today, and they look great.

The business cards are particularly impressive, they feel very high quality and the rounded corners are a nice touch. Really makes a difference to be able to have up to 50 different images on them.

The greeting cards are available now in my new etsy shop!

Shoot the Moon book sculpture

Been a bit quiet on the blog lately, busy preparing for exhibition in early July and moving house at the end of June.
Anyway, here is a new book sculpture, Shoot the Moon. A bit of a departure by using printed trees and figures, which were then cut out by hand.

Have just spent the morning designing some greeting cards which should be printed and delivered within a couple of weeks, will post when they are available.

UPDATE - cards have been printed and are available for purchase here.

Tracey Emin - The Kiss print

Another new print from Tracey Emin, this time from the White Cube gallery. The Kiss is a commemorative piece for the recent Royal Wedding. It is quite a large edition of 1000, but a very attactive price of only £100 plus tax and postage.

At this price I would say it could be a good investment if it is snapped up by all those Wills and Kate fans!

Buy it here.

UPDATE 20 May 2011 White Cube had 200 of these - they have sold out!

You can still get it from Tracey direct at Emin International here, it is actually cheaper as they are only charging £4 for postage as opposed the White Cube's £20! I've just ordered mine.

New Tracey Emin prints at Counter

*UPDATE 2nd June 2011. Use this code - TECE2011 - at the checkout to get £100 off these prints.*

Counter editions have two new Tracey Emin prints for sale on their website. It seems that £650 is their new starting point for their prints which seems a little steep, but they are always excellent quality and will probably be worth much more in the long run.
She Lay Down (2011)

£650.00
Edition of 150
Lithograph on Somerset Velvet 300 gsm paper
55.5 x 72.5 cm
Signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

To coincide with her retrospective exhibition Love is What You Want at the Hayward Gallery, Tracey Emin has created two new limited edition prints. The lithographic prints are close in style to both her early watercolours and to her more recent large-scale paintings. Emin describes the landscape in She Lay Down (2011) as “a dream-like place - a cross between a desert and an ocean.” In this landscape the prone, solitary female has an ambiguous presence: is she lying at the bottom of the sea, or simply lying asleep?

Laying with the Olive Trees (2011) uses the repeated motif of the olive tree to bring a sense of life to the female figure lying in a state of deathly repose. Perhaps her thoughts are drifting to the rolling hills of olive groves in her much-visited Turkish-Cypriot homeland, or maybe Provence where the artist often spends her summers. Buy it here.

The Royal Little Red Riding Hood after Kilimnik book sculpture

Despite several comments this is not my tribute to the imminent Royal Wedding!

'The Royal Little Red Riding Hood after Kilimnik' is a book sculpture partially inspired the print by American painter and installation artist Karen Kilimnik.

It is all hand cut and sculpted from paper, the carriage has then had 23 carat gold leaf applied, the moon Palladium leaf. I now have cards with some of these images available for purchase, get them here and here.

Limited-Edition Photograph by Rinko Kawauchi to Support Japanese Relief Effort

Aperture is proud to contribute to the relief efforts in Japan by issuing this very special limited-edition photograph by Rinko Kawauchi, made the day after the earthquake in Tokyo. Kawauchi is considered one of the most noted Japanese photographers of her generation. She is known for her quiet aesthetic, offering viewers a glimpse of tender, fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. In this photograph Kawauchi captures the sun straining through a soot-filled sky. The resulting image is hauntingly beautiful, a poignant illustration of the immediate aftermath of the earthquake.

Net profits from the sale of this print will be donated to the American Red Cross Japan Relief Fund.

Rinko Kawauchi (b. 1972) lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. Her first Aperture-published monograph, Illuminance, will be released in spring 2011.
