Forest of Dreams book sculpture

Forest of Dreams is another of my papercuts, it is a commissioned piece so will not be in my summer exhibition, but I will hopefully be putting together a short book where this will be included.
Looks very nice in it's display cabinet. The lady who commissioned it had seen my Christmas window and  wanted something similar, this is a bit more realistic size for a domestic house, the other one was rather large.
I now have some cards with these images available for purchase here and here.

The Gagosian gallery currently has this signed Gregory Crewdson Sanctuary poster on sale for $40. Unfortunately they then wanted a further $61 to ship to the UK, so I passed. Worth checking out if you live locally or in the US, no doubt shipping would be much less. Buy it here.

Daniel Gordon - Flying Pictures

Flying Pictures by Daniel Gordon is a fun photobook published by powerHouse Books about 'flying'.
The concept is not particularly original, but the results are excellent. The quality of the images and the way they are displayed in the book would be good enough on their own, but to have the artist caught in mid leap in each frame is an added bonus!
The Book has a foreward by Gregory Crewdson which give it a bit of star quality, it is also printed in an edition of 1000. US readers can get a copy here or in the UK here.

Ladurée: Sucré by Phillipe Andrieu

A slight departure in subject from my usual posting, Laduree Sucre (The Sweet Recipes) by Phillipe Andrieu is a recipe book, but a recipe book like no other.
The exquisite outer box reveals the book itself in luxurious suedette finish, with copious gold blocking on the front cover and gilt page edges.
Inside it is a more conventional recipe book, the photography by Sophie Tramier is excellent, the quality of the recipes I will have to reserve judgement on!
Even though the book was only published last year it is already pretty scarce. There are a few copies available here, and it looks like there may be another edition about to be published here, though whether this will have the same production values I do not know.
From the Ladurée website -
Ladurée Sucré is a delectable artist’s book gem.

Reminiscent of the “legendary” macaroons in their elegant powder pastel boxes, this work of art will come set in a gift chest and wrapped in tissue paper. Philippe Andrieu, Chief Pastry Chef at Ladurée, unveils 100 of the prestigious establishment’s recipes adapted for the general public. From the Fraisier to the rose cream puff, the pistachio financier, and the indispensible macaroons in their assorted flavours, a rich palette of pastel green, tart violet, and lemon yellow pastries await, as so many jewels, behind every page.

It is an expression both of Ladurée excellence, where taste and refinement have always gone hand and hand, and the best the French “art de vivre” has to offer. An introduction, “La Petite histoire de Ladurée (A brief history of Ladurée)” is the story of how this little bakery, created in 1862 by Louis Ernest Ladurée, came into its own and became a genuine institution of French gourmandise.

Hopeful had much ado to keep his brother's head above water book sculpture.

'Hopeful had much ado to keep his brother's head above water' is another of my paper sculptures, this one only using the source book itself, with no additions. This is a scene from the 'The Pilgrim's Progress' by John Bunyan, I have tried to simulate waves engulfing Hopeful and his brother with the paper cutting.
I now have cards with this image available for purchase here.

On the occasion of the first presentation of The Trip by Marcus Coates, the Serpentine Gallery is delighted to present a limited edition print by the artist.
English artist Marcus Coates (b.1968) creates rituals and mythologies that examine the role of the imagination and its possibilities for unconscious reasoning, often questioning the relationship between critical rationalism and belief. He seeks to test the pragmatic and uniquely useful potential of the artist within contemporary society.
In his newly commissioned work for the Serpentine Gallery,The Trip, Coates reflects on the intimate conversations he had with patients at St. John’s Hospice in London. Exploring the possibilities for dialogue between artists and those facing the end of life, Coates asked patients the question: 'What can I do for you?' The Trip documents exchanges between Coates and the late Alex H., who requested that the artist visit a remote small community in the Amazon on his behalf.
This edition made exclusively for the Serpentine is a documentary photograph, taken on Coates’ trip to the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador on behalf of Alex H.
The resulting videos, performances and installations have been shown internationally, with recent exhibitions including: The Sydney Biennial, 2010; Milton Keynes Gallery, 2010; Altermodern: Tate Triennial, London, 2009; Kunsthale Zurich, 2009; Tomio Koyama Gallery, Tokyo; Lisson Presents 2, Lisson Gallery, London, 2008; Manifesta 7, Trento, Italy, 2008.
The Trip was commissioned by the Serpentine Galllery in collaboration with St. John’s Hospice and is part of the Serpentine Gallery’s Skills Exchange programme in which artists swap and develop ideas for social and architectural change with the elderly, market traders, care workers and young people. The Trip will be presented in the Sackler Centre of Arts Education at the Serpentine Gallery.
